Obedience is a word most of us don’t like. However, God delights in our obedience and gives us joy when we do obey.
I decided at the end 2014 that I needed to be more intentional with reaching out to visitors at church and life group. In all honesty, doing so is not something that is always easy for me to do. Some Sundays I’m not feeling it. I want to stay in my happy little group. Or I’m really struggling myself and don’t feel like getting outside of myself. Other Sundays, I’m feeling it and it’s easy to be friendly and welcoming. However, it shouldn’t matter how I feel. It’s about obedience and obedience brings blessings.
The past two Sundays, I decided to obey despite wanting to sit with people I knew. Despite getting up during worship and feeling conspicuous and awkward to make someone new feel welcome. Despite that fact that I received a funny look because someone thought I was leaving. Honestly, I wasn’t feeling it this morning. I was sitting by myself as I tend to do sometimes instead of inviting myself to sit with people I know. Despite my hesitance, God brought joy each time through allowing me the opportunity to make new friends and show his love to new people.
For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
